You can see where Natchez meets King Street. Almost all of Eastwood is farm land and swamp. Montgomery Creek is there to the south. There is no expressway as that didn't arrive for another 50 years. Ottawa Street wasn't built and East Ave is there and it would later be extended south but diverted and named weber street. This year was our best attended “hunt” ever as over 20 families from both sides of Ottawa street hunted for treasure all over. This hunt showcased the area of Eastwood as we started on Randerson, threw frisbees in Montgomery and visited Rockway community centre and gardens. Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the Disc Golf course. August 25th. We “cut the ribbon” on our brand new Disc Golf course by having Grand River Disc Association provide neighbours free lessons on “INTRO TO DISC GOLF”. We were joined by members from Eastwood Collegiate, ENAK, the Love my Hood program, Grand River Disc Association, Councilor Sarah Marsh, Mayor Berry Vrbanovic and Kitchener Centre’s MP Mike Morrice and many neighbours of all ages. Saturday April 23 11am to 1pm Montgomery Park Clean Up The annual park clean up was another success. 40+ people from all around the neighbourhood worked hard to collect 20+ bags. ENAK provided the coffee and donuts. The city provided the gloves and the bags. Many thanks to the ECI students who volunteered their time as well. There was also great collaboration between ECI, ENAK and the city to prep the park before the event. Bins are placed at the entrance of our Rockway Community Centre to enable the community to collect household items that would normally end up in the waste centre. Oral Hygiene products such as used toothbrushes, emptied toothpaste tubes, floss containers, and picks. Be sure to dry items before drop off. Disposable razor products including blade cases, etc. Swiffer refills Brita Prodcuts Batteries Partnering: It would take a while for 1 household to fill up a TerraCycle box but together, we are diverting materials away from the Region’s waste management site. As the bins fill up, we place the items in a box, seal it, print the shipping label from TerraCycle and drop off at our local UPS Store. The program has expanded to 5 community centres and ENAK along with Reep hosted a webinar to share best practices. Rockway, Downtown Centre, Mill Courtland and Victoria Hills. Our recycling program is receiving TerraCycle Rewards Points. This means, each time you save waste from being tossed into the garbage, ENAK gains rewards. The more waste we divert, the more points we gain. Held every “Earth Day Weekend” at the end of April, on average 40+ people from all around the neighbourhood work to collect bags of garbage. ENAK volunteers hand out gloves and bags provided by the City of Kitchener. Did you know that one of our neighbours cleans the park every single day of the year? Rain or Shine.
